What is Lichen Planopilaris?

Lichen planopilaris is hair loss related to inflammation of the scalp that is progressive and can result in permanent hair loss. It is associated with lichen planus of the skin.

Who gets Lichen Planopilaris?

The most commonly affected group is young adult women.

What causes Lichen Planopilaris?

The cause is unknown.

What does Lichen Planopilaris look like?

It can occur anywhere on the scalp. Small areas can merge to form larger areas. Typically there are white, smooth, hairless patches with red rough bumps at the edges of the patches.

Is there treatment for Lichen Planopilaris?
