Rhinophyma

Rhinophyma (Nose enlargement reduction)

What is Rhinophyma?

Rhinophyma usually affects the tip of the nose. Thickened skin tissue and enlargement of oil glands create a bulbous nose often with a pitted appearance due to prominent pores. The skin color tends to be red with prominent blood vessels. Because of the deformity it creates, rhinophyma can be cosmetically unsightly.

What Causes Rhinophyma?

The most common cause of rhinophyma is rosacea.

Who Gets Rhinophyma?

Men are much more likely than women to get rhinophyma by 25:1.

What are the treatment options for Rhinophyma?

Our dermatology providers do treat the baseline rosacea but that typically will not reverse the rhinophyma that is present. We have found that treating the nose with electrosurgery offers the most reliable outcome with the best cosmetic result. Our patients who have undergone electrosurgery for rhinophyma are ecstatic with the results. They feel they can live life without being self-conscious about the appearance of their nose. Book a consult with a Skin Solutions’ dermatology provider today to learn more about electrosurgery for rhinophyma
