Ringworm is caused by a fungus. It is most often spread by direct skin to skin contact with an infected human or animal. It can also spread though soil or an object touched or used by an infected person.

What are the symptoms of ringworm?

Ringworm presents as a circular ring-like rash that appears on the buttocks, trunk, arms or legs. It is mildly itchy and has a scaly area with red bumps inside the ring or rings.

How is Ringworm diagnosed?

Ringworm is very common and easily diagnosed by visual examination. Ringworm is contagious and can be treated. With treatment, ringworm will usually resolve within a few weeks.
