January 2021 - Anti Aging

For many people, noticing the telltale signs of aging on your skin can be an emotional experience. Everyone’s body is different and factors such as sun exposure, genetics and overall health can determine how your skin ages. However, it’s not too late to reevaluate your skincare regimen so you can enjoy more youthful and vibrant looking skin for years to come!

We sat down with our founder and CEO, Julie Pena MD FAAD to get answers to some of the most important questions asked about skin care and aging.

At what age do you think skincare becomes important?

Having a skin care regimen from a young age that includes zinc sun protection and a Vitamin A derivative is very important for keeping skin youthful. You can start this as soon as your early 20s. Parents should encourage young teenagers to start with a zinc sunscreen moisturizer and move on to other preventatives as they age.

At what age should you be using Retinoids and Vitamin C serums?

Ideally in your 20s. You could start all of these as a teenager; however, some young people find that a strict skin care routine is tough to maintain. The number of products you use for anti-aging depends on how motivated you are.

If you're not motivated to use lots of products, what is the single most important anti-ager?

A zinc sunscreen is by far the most important anti-ager no matter what your age.

What treatment do you consider go-to treatments for fighting the signs of aging?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is the work horse of anti-aging because it takes away sun damage while building collagen.

Do you feel Fillers and Botox are safe?

Yes.

At what age should a person start thinking about getting Botox and Fillers injected?

If you have a dynamic face, and you are noticing permanent lines, you should to consider Botox. If you notice deflation or sagging of the skin, you should consider fillers

If I'm 50 or older, is it too late to get Botox and fillers?

No, it's never too late. However, you may require more treatments to achieve your goal than you would if you started at a younger age.

If you start using Botox and Fillers in your 30s and 40s, will you still develop deep wrinkles?

Typically, not. Botox and fillers are preventive care with regards to aging. Over time you may actually find that you have to get less Botox and fillers injected because your body has been stimulated to produce collagen.

Are there any other in-office, inexpensive procedures to help with anti-aging?

Yes. Chemical Peels are a great inexpensive procedure to help with anti-aging.
