If You’re Noticing Hair Loss, Read This

Have you ever picked up a bottle of Rogaine at the drugstore, then put it back hurriedly?

Do you look closely at your hair in the mirror every morning, wondering if your hairline is receding - and if it’s time to do something about it?

I know it can be incredibly difficult to accept when you start experiencing hair loss, much less to seek out treatment.

At my Nashville dermatology practice, I hear so many patients express that they’re reluctant to use minoxidil products like Rogaine, because it really is a life commitment. However, currently, minoxidil and finasteride are the the only FDA-cleared treatments available, and studies have shown that they make a more positive impact than not doing anything at all.

My two cents? If you’re starting to experience hair loss, don’t ignore it. Rather than waiting to see if it will resolve itself, you may be at the perfect stage to catch it while it’s early, and treat it with minoxidil. I have seen many of my Nashville male and female patients commit to using it before anyone else would have really noticed their hair loss, and as the years have gone by (I’m talking 5-10 years of commitment!), they have emerged with truly gorgeous hair.

The bottom line: using minoxidil will make a difference - it might not be as amazing as you might like in the beginning, but it is certainly far better than not doing anything at all. The proof is in the research! You may not feel like the results are significant at first, but it will at least keep your hair count stable, as opposed to a decline.

If you have the time to incorporate a hair loss treatment like minoxidil into your life, I highly recommend it. Uncomfortable with the idea of an over the counter treatment? Talk to your doctor to see if a compounding pharmacy can make a better formula, just with a cheap test! Our doors at our Nashville dermatology practice are also always open, if you need a second opinion.
