What is Alopecia Areata?

Telogen Effluvium happens approximately 2-6 months after an event that causes active hair growth to stop. The telogen hair has a bulb at the end known as club hair. During a physical exam, the provider will be able to do a “Hair Pull Test” to see if this condition is affecting you. Common causes include:

  • Recent pregnancy/breast feeding
  • Surgical procedure,
  • Weight gain or weight loss
  • Illnesses
  • Traumatic events
  • Psychological stress
  • Medications
  • Nutritional deficits.
