What is Neurofibromatosis (NF)?

Neurofibromatosis (NF) is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow on nerve tissue. These tumors can be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous).

Who is at risk for Neurofibromatosis (NF)?

Anyone can develop NF, as up to 50% of cases are caused by spontaneous mutations. However, the primary risk factor is having a family history of the condition, as a parent with NF has a 50% chance of passing the mutated gene on to their child.
